Holiday Wrap Up!

Markets & ShowsKacey

Whew, what a year it has been! We debuted our wholesale line in our first tradeshow, made exciting connections which have led to new illustration projects with wonderful publishers, and can now be found at lovely retail shops on both coasts!

Earlier this month we had the pleasure of taking part in the SF Bazaar Holiday Market at CalAcademy Nightlife. It was such a fun return to in-person markets (after a 2 year long hiatus), being surrounded by sweet animal exhibits and live music, all while enjoying a cocktail and meeting those who stopped by! I'm looking forward to participating in more local events and will be sure to keep everyone posted on where you can visit us!

With 2017 rapidly approaching, I'm busy brainstorming new ideas for Mudsplash, as well as working on opening a new online storefront where retailers can shop our wholesale line through this website! I'm super excited to share some of the freelance projects that I've had the opportunity to work on, and am hoping for the continued flexibility to take on more new illustration jobs in the new year.

Finally, I'd like to thank all of you for joining us on our Mudsplash journey! We are looking forward to sharing a bright new year with you, filled with all the cuteness

Happy Fourth of July!

Spreading sparkler safety awareness, one rocket pop at a time. Hope everyone had a fun and safe fourth of July weekend and ate (or like me, drew) a lot of delicious/cute food!

So far this July I've been working on a bit of freelance illustration, and in my spare time I've started to brainstorm new holiday ideas for this winter. I can't seem to help but release a new gingerbread card each year, though I'm trying to step out of the spiced cookie box and see what else springs to mind. This chilly San Francisco weather is definitely getting me into the Christmas in July spirit. More to share soon!

National Stationery Show 2016

Markets & ShowsKacey

I can’t believe it has been 3 weeks since our first National Stationery Show! It was quite the adventure both during and leading up to the show. Here is a little wrap-up of our time in New York!

The trip started off on a serendipitous note - our flight number 2240 was the same as our booth number and between that and watching ‘You’ve Got Mail’ on the plane, I was excited to set foot in the city.

We arrived to our blank foam core walls with 2 days of set-up before the start of the show. My sister-in-law Becky drove from Ohio, bringing booth furniture, flooring, and enough patience to deal with us in our sleep deprived state after the overnight flight. Together we are penning our first book: "Ikea and You - two hours of sleep, look what you can do." We were both very grateful to have her there for assembly, coffee runs, and of course late night laughs after long days of standing in the booth.

I’m happy I took the tradeshow leap this year because it gave me clarity on what to expect for future shows, what I can personally improve on, and of course the opportunity to meet so many shop owners and other artists. It was exciting to leave with new orders and connections, as well as the possibility of future illustration projects. I look forward to staying in touch with the awesome creators, publishers and paper enthusiasts that we met in New York.

Finally, it had been 10 years since I first visited NYC (in a bitter cold February), and after the show Chris and I planned a few extra days to stroll the city with friends. We started each morning with glorious bagels and coffee, walked across bridges, through parks, Chelsea galleries, and enjoyed relaxing with the best company. Thank you for the beautiful weather this time NYC, I might just heart you after all.

Happy Easter!

Stubby, round, cuteness is a favorite thing of mine to draw. Sometimes the ideas in my sketchbook look more like chicken scratches that only I can understand, but in this case I really wanted a little more detailed understanding of each chick's personality before starting the color version.

We have been super busy preparing for our debut at the National Stationery Show, coming up this May. I can't wait to share all of the new designs I've been working on including a special set of cards that is launching at the show. Until then I hope everyone has a great Easter weekend and is enjoying the beginning of Spring!

Welcome

Kacey

Oh hi! Thanks for visiting our new website and blog for Mudsplash Studios! Here we'll be sharing an inside look at all of the little pieces that make up and inspire what we do.

I'll be writing about topics such as the process behind my illustrations, San Francisco life and our favorite local creative spots, as well as lessons learned and some of the resources I've used while running a small business.

We love to travel, and our first year of marriage was spent living and working in London. We're looking forward to sharing some of our experiences, inspiring art and architecture, and other details and special moments from our time overseas.

It is great to be back in San Francisco, and I'm excited for what lies ahead in 2016! From the first sketches to the final color, and all of the adventures in between, I hope you enjoy coming with us on this journey!
